Architecural Characteristics and Details

The royal cremation ceremony was held on the southern end of Sanam Luang where the ceremonial area was defined by Ratchawat fences (fenced defining sacred ceremonial area) on all four sides. The entire cremation ceremony ground covered an area of 7 rai 2 ngan (3 acres), with the royal cremation pavilion located at the centre of the ground. Also within the ground, other ceremonial buildings were erected: the Ho Plueng Krueang ( the disrobking chamber), Phra Thiang Songdham (the royal sermon pavilion), Sang (the sermon pavilion), Thab Kaset (the public gallery of the sermon pavilion), Thim (the royal household pavilion), the commemorative book pavilion and washrooms. Beyond the ceremonial ground, north of the Ratchawat fence, Phlab-phla-yok (a royal pavilion) was erected for His Majesty to preside during reception of the royal coffin upon its arrvial at Sanam Lauang
