Building Housing a statue of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadaj
พ.ศ.๒๕๔๔-๒๕๔๘

The building housing a statue of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadaj was planned to be established after building construction at Wat Thai Kushinara Chalermrajsaddha was completely done. The monastery is known as Wat Chalermphrakiat, a commemorative monastery of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, as Phra Mahadhat Stupa, the ordination hall, and other structures in the compound were proposed to dedicate merit to His Majesty. It also recollects Thai royalty and the monks who builot the monastery. Planning to build a statue of His Majesty, the monastic committees invited the architect Wanida Phungsoonthorn, a national artist who designed Phra Mahadhat Chalermrajsaddha Stupa, to undertake the task of designing a building housing a royal statue.

A preliminary architectural design was made to fit a large royal statue. The design is grand and appropriate to the location on the side of Phra Mahadhat Chalermrajsaddha Stupa. It mixes the art and architecture of India and Thailand, such as styles and materials, as well as being built by craftsmen from both countries. The architectural plan is an octagonal from that can be seen from all sides and fit with the statue base. The bronze standing statue of His Majesty is 2.3 meters high and shows him dressed in a Thai army uniform. It was molded by Mr. Kren Kunchasin and beautified by Acharn Nonthiwat Chanthanaphalin, a national artist of visual art, under the supervision of the Office of Traditional Arts, Fine Arts Department.

inside the marble fruit-shaped dome, the narrow neck between the tiers of roofing is adorned with a mural painting of royal symbol, an honorific nine-tiered umbrella surmounted by the royal cipher. The upper parts of the walls are decorated with other symbols; namely, the royal regalia; Krut Pha (garuda spreading the wings acting as the vehicle of Vishnu), a sign of the royal Thai Family; and the white elephant of His Majesty (Phra Savet Adulyadej Phahana) with floral patterns on the cardinal points. These paintings beautify the royal decorations of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The architectural design concept and every step of the working process have been presented to His Majesty for royal recommendations. All associated parts intend this small building to be grand and suited to the enviroment as a commemoration of the love of the Thai for His Majesty.
